52 ft L.F. Herreshoff built in New Zealand
The vessel was built for the first owner at Seaglass Marine Ltd. Whangarei , New Zealand (this company was owned by renown naval architect and boatbuilder, Alan Orams) The design was based on the classic L.F Herreshoff vessels: Tioga I and Ticonderoga, using more beam and less draft. There are 16 sisterships in the 52 ft range each with individual differences.
This vessel was ordered with extra headroom throughout the vessel, the hull was finished in 1976 and delivered as an empty hull to the first owner in Auckland. (only hull with engine, mast and teak decks)
The owner was a professional joiner and took 3 to 4 years to finish the interior of the vessel, being hauled out on his property. After finishing she was launched in 1979 and she made several South Pacific Island voyages. At the time she had a 140Hp turbo charged Perkins 3645 engine, which was rebuilt @ 5000 hrs. to a normally aspirated engine by Perkins/Ovlov New Zealand. Current engine hrs. reading 8430 (June 2014)
The vessel was sold to her second owner in 1993, under this ownership she had a full refit in 1998/1999 including hull and topsides paint job., interior re-varnished, new upholstery.
Mast painted and re-rigged, engine lifted and painted, bilges painted.
She had only very little use and mostly lived in Gulf Harbor Marina, NZ.
In 1999 she was sold to her current owner who has used her as a live aboard cruising yacht and given her constant maintenance and upgrading.
The vessel received a new Furlex genoa furler, a self tacking staysail track and powerful Anderson primary winches to make her suitable for single handed sailing. New autopilot, electronics, new sails, new Maxwell 3500 anchor winch, standing and running rigging, etc. etc.
During 2009 to 2012 she underwent an ongoing refit program, including hull and topside paint, underwater ship stripped to gell-coat and a preventive anti-osmosis treatment. Engine lifted and fitted with new exhaust manifold, new heat-exchangers, new cooling water hoses/circuit.
Shaft pulled and inspected, new cutt-lass bearing and stern gland packing.
Her originally 25 mm teak decks were sanded down to 15 mm and recaulked. All brass deck fasteners were professionally removed and replaced with hardwood dowels, glued back with epoxy resin. All deck hard-ware was removed and re-installed with individual new teak inlays and re- fastened in threaded re-enforced epoxy. These inlays are supported with 2” hardwood reinforcement blocks underneath to ensure a strong and watertight base for the new fastening bolts bedded in threaded reinforced epoxy. All inlays are varnished which accentuate her classic heritage. All chain-plates were inspected and improved accessibility was made for future service. New genoa track inlay in teak and refastened in threaded reinforced epoxy. New antifouling October 2013, International Copper Coat. New exhaust manifold 2011. New heat exchanger 2011. New anchor chain 110 meters of galvanized 13mm installed in 2012. New house batteries 2012, 8x 6V. New electronics battery, 12V. Sails lofted and serviced Oct 2013.

Coming down the companion-way into the traditional and varnished salon you will instantly feel "at home". Dark blue carpet and upholstery combine perfectly with classic varnished mahogany. To port-side there is a high gloss finished varnished dinner table seating 5/6 comfortably. Large lounge sofa on starboard with pipe berth on top. Aft to starboard is the navigation table instruments, SSB, radar and autopilot repeater. Aft of the navigation station is a single berth captain’s cabin with hanging locker. Aft to port is the fully equipped galley with ample work-space, fridge and freezers and 4 burner gas stove. Aft through the galley is the spacious master cabin with full width bed and a large mirror behind the bed, hanging wardrobe, separate toilet and ample storage lockers. Forward of the saloon stepping down to port is the large bathroom with spacious shower and laundry basin, electric toilet, marble wash basin. Opposite the bathroom/mid-ships are two Pullman berths, cabin enclosed with curtain. Forward is a 3 berth cabin with possibility to join the two top-berths into a very large full width bed. Sail-locker with anchor-chain locker and ample storage, life-vests etc.
8x 6V house battery banks, new in 2012. 12V separate battery for electronics, new in 2012. 24V starting batteries, new in 2012. New Pioneer cockpit stereo/ CD/ USB. Sitex autopilot - 2 control stations - at helm and repeater at nav table (plus complete new spare unit in box). Garmin 551S GPS/ chart plotter (with sounder option), new in 2012. Furuno 24 mile radar. Icom GPS/ depth sounder/ fish finder. Garmin 38 handheld GPS. Icom IC M-422 VHF, new in 2012. Icom IC 710 SSB (open to all frequencies/ HAM Radio). VDO wind speed/ direction and log. 4x 12V Siemens 75W solar-panels. 1x 12V 50W solar panel to service electronics battery. Yankee/ Doyle sails , serviced 2013 (also for furler). Staysail/Doyle sails , serviced 2013. Selftacking staysail track. Spare Main x2, Genoa, nr 1,2,3. Storm-sail. Spinnaker, nearly new. MPS.
