With BRAND NEW WHITE AWLGRIP 2000, DAWN STAR is emerging from the paint shed on March 15, 2017.
Having been completely rebuilt from keel up and in yacht fashion by an experienced yacht maintenance facility to impressive standards between 2013 and 2016, virtually every system has been replaced with new or, at minimum, restored.
The undertaking of this refit took in full time mode, the better part of four years. She has been re-engineered, and re-invigorated to nearly like new condition or better.
This impressive yacht is ready to cruise in new condition, and at a fraction of the cost of refitting an older yacht. She deserves to be seen by any serious cruiser looking for a strong, sea-worthy vessel with great load carrying capacity, impressive interior volume, and again, all new equipment.
In March 2016 the following work was performed: new 1X19 standing rigging and new running rigging for halyards and sheets, new sails from Dave Ullman, new significantly upgraded, hi performance masthead sheaves, new awnings, new bimini, new Selden main sail tracks, new Furlex 404S over sized Roller Furler, new 4mm 1X19 Stainless Steel lifelines, new lifeline gates, new Racor 900 Series Fuel treatment system for both engines, thus two systems installed. She also has a new Victron Voltage and Amperage monitor, allowing review of electrical needs and usage. She has been re-shafted, her props have just been re balanced.
To be clear, and to put this all in perspective, the cost of a new 64 foot yacht from a name brand, hi pedigree builder would cost in excess of US$2,000,000.

PRELIMINARY SPECIFICATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE
DAWN STAR has been completely gutted and in her extensive refit, all mechanical and electrical systems were removed, along with the cabin sole, and all but one bulkhead removed. Further, all interior floor frames have been replaced with new Solid Teak frames onto which the cabin sole is secured.
She is a complete restoration from scratch in nearly the exact configuration as designed by Henry Hinckley and nearly the same when originally executed by Hinckley Yachts.
Total restoration is a very ambiguous term when describing most yachts, but in the case here, I can assure you the accuracy of this phrase.
DAWN STAR is, as seen in the photos, a superlative restoration with nearly every piece of interior and exterior wood replaced with new.
Interior woods are Brazilian Mahogany paneling, varnished bright, with nearly impervious Red Cedar trim, also varnished bright.
With a virtually new interior, DAWN STAR's configuration sleeps five to six in two private staterooms with a separate captains cabin for crew members. There are three heads, two with separate stall showers. The newly painted and varnished interior trim wood is spectacularly finished, custom white Herreshoff style paneling in deck ceilings, new lighting including all LED lighting, and so much more. This yacht truly shines. Newly designed and built interior cabinetry is beautifully crafted in varnished red cedar with mahogany accents. New Teak and Holly Sole with teak framed insulation panels to make her much quieter than the typical yacht from the 80's - Clear varnished. There are beautifully crafted deck ceiling frames, both adding aesthetics and strength.
With two staterooms plus a skippers berth cabin, both owners and guests have ample space and privacy all the while having crew available aboard, or another cabin for one person.
LAYOUT. This slightly raised saloon layout creates a very spacious interior. The Hinckley 64 has a large main saloon, raised under the stepped house with great windows covering the full length of the cabin. Dawn Star has been refined during the refit, modifying the salon geometry to improve comfort, providing more room where needed, the salon. The installation of custom tables and custom features allows for many small but significant improvements. There is all new lighting, custom mini-blinds, upgrades to all systems of the yacht as part of the refit.
MASTER STATEROOM, NEWLY REBUILT, 2013 The master stateroom is located aft of the galley and salon, and has a queen size berth to starboard. Double hanging lockers and bureaus on the port side provide ample storage for the owners. Inboard of the hallway is another storage area for linens. HEAD: A mirrored vanity with sink is on the fwd bulkhead with separate shower aft. The aft cockpit has private access to the master stateroom, allowing a door directly to the deck, thus two egresses, and provides an additional outdoor space, yielding privacy not typically afforded in a yacht of this size. FORWARD STATEROOM, NEWLY REBUILT 2014. Also newly rebuilt is the forward cabin, forward of the salon. The bed is located on centerline in the cabin and has bookshelves either side, LED lighting fixtures, Stereo, Storage lockers. There is also a vanity with a sink in the cabin. New countertops & appliances in 2015 have updated the look of the yachts' galley with understated style, while not detracting from the traditional feel of this superb yacht. Counters contrast beautifully with the new stainless steel sink, fixtures, original Shipmate stove and new GE microwave oven. The interior has been freshly painted, maintaining the bright & open feeling.
SAILS AND RIGGING
DAWN STAR is rigged for offshore sailing. Yet she is superbly and easily handled with her Ketch rig. Her custom and electric Hood Yacht Systems Stoway brand Main mast, with electric Stoway Mizzen mast makes life ultra easy. She is very easily sailed shorthanded and still has great performance without having large crew. One competent person can sail this yacht.
Masts: The Stoway systems have New Motors and Gear boxes, for both Main and Mizzen. Painted with exacting effort, to match perfectly, the color of the newly painted deck in 2015. Main Mast is 70 feet long overall for a height above WL of about 68 feet.
Rigging: All standing rigging is 1 x 19 with swaged terminals and is new in 2015. Hood Stoway systems with new motors and gearboxes in 2015, effortlessly deploys or eliminates main sail or a mizzen. New Stainless bases for turning blocks with extra turning blocks all by Selden
Winches: Electric Sheet winches. Rebuilt 2014. New Main sheet Winch Lewmar 50 Self Tailer

ENGINE ROOM and ENGINES
The entire yacht was emptied to bare hull and all mechanical and electrical components removed and replaced with new if needed. Most were. The entire bilge was steam cleaned and sanded, glassed, prepped, primed, and painted in a hi gloss grey paint. The significance of this cannot be overstated.
Twin Ford Lehman 120hp diesel engines, 6 cylinder for smooth, nearly effortless performance, allowing the yacht to be a trawler in the event of no wind. Motors were removed from vessel and rebuilt completely, all new ancillary parts replaced, i.e.: alternators, pumps, belts, electrical fittings, fuel system and hoses. Exhaust system was replaced with a large yacht style exhaust system, engineered to reduce back pressure thus adding power to the yacht. New exhaust tube and mufflers 2015.
Transmissions are Borg and Warner Velvet Drives. Overhauled at time of engine overhaul.
Removed from the vessel and Rebuilt and re-installed. 2 hours total running time currently since overhaul, as of January 15, 2016.
Running gear is new as well, Both Propeller shafts and stuffing boxes were replaced with dripless stuffing boxes. New Cutlass bearings.
Many new components, certainly all new wire, hose, connections to the yacht.
Generator: New 2016 Kohler 9kW generator. Installed January 2016.

Also, the plumbing, and the electrical cables in the bilge are new 2014/2015 and freshly painted and well lit.
BOTTOM: The bottom was stripped and 5 coats of black epoxy applied. Seller reports no osmosis in hull. Anti fouling new.
AB 9 foot Aluminum Lightweight RIB. New in 2015. Kept for lions share of time under cover.
