To many sailors the Peterson 44 is an ideal blue-water cruising boat. Designed by Doug Peterson and built in Taiwan, about 200 of these boats were built in the late 70's and early 80's. Many were destined for charter fleets from where they found their way into the hands of budget conscious cruisers looking for a solid boat with good performance, storage capacity and the safety of a deep center cockpit. The sweet sheerline and balanced looks make the Peterson 44 a head turner. Below the waterline is a long fin keel with cutaway forefoot and skeg hung rudder. The powerful rig gives over 1000 square feet of sail to push the 30 000 pound displacement along at a good clip. Our listing Aetheria is one of the sought after Peterson 44's that have never had teak decks. Many boats were built with teak decks that have subsequently had to be removed to deal with deck delamination caused by water ingress through thousands of screw holes. Not the case with Aetheria. The decks are original and solid. Aetheria was recently sailed by a family from the West coast, through Panama, across the Caribbean and up to her present location in Deltaville, VA. The family have returned to life on land after a wonderful cruising adventure and are anxious to pass their lovely boat onto caring new owners. While Aetheira is over 30 years old, there has been regular maintenance and many improvements that make her an excellent purchase for someone seeking a sound blue-water boat at a good price.
