Ted Brewer has long been recognized as one of the outstanding designers of cruising boats of all kinds. Brewer’s designs always stand out for their practicality, comfort, and well-mannered performance. The Whitby 42 was introduced in 1972 and is arguably his most commercially successful design. This one was built by Whitby Boat Works of Ontario, Canada. The original decks were constructed of fiberglass cloth and mat with balsa wood core but were found to be saturated. So the current owners had Scepter Marine of Richmond BC Canada, completely replace and refiberglass the decks. Auxiliary power is a Ford Lehman diesel engine installed beneath the cockpit deck. It has plenty of power for a 23,000 lb. cruising boat, and the 200+ gallon fuel tanks provides a cruising range of more than 1,200 miles. The engine room is easily accessed for service and, if engine replacement or major overhaul is ever necessary, the cockpit sole is removable. The strength of the Whitby 42 clearly lies in her accommodations. There are good-sized staterooms forward and aft, and both have large adjoining heads. The "U" shaped galley is spacious and perfectly positioned to keep the cook out of the way of passengers and crew. In addition, there is a large salon, comfortable navigation station and even a workbench along the passageway between the Nav station and aft stateroom. The Whitby 42 is justifiably regarded as one of the most livable production boats to be found in this size range. Scepter Marine also built the custom hardtop enclosure for the cockpit. This boat is cruise ready with numerous professional upgrades including rigged for easy sail handling. Waiting for you at the gateway to the Sea of Cortez, La Paz is a great place for provisioning, getting boat projects done or enjoying the many local islands within a day’s sail. | ||
