This vessel was designed by Bill Crealock and was closely patterned after one of Colin Archer’s classic double-enders. She is a class “A” sailing sloop with a cutter rig, laid up in California. The massively-constructed bare hull was purchased with its interior in kit form in the later 1970’s by a retired professional engineer whose skill at teak wood joinery was outstanding. He finished the vessel over a few years and launched her for the first time in 1982. Her current owner has cruised with her to southern Florida and has continued to upgrade her (total spent is close to $23,000 CDN) over the last ten years. Up until he purchased her, she had never seen saltwater.
She is a long-keeled, double-ender designed for blue water sailing. The Westsail’s reputation for handling heavy weather is well known. The deck layout is conventional, and this vessel has a safe foredeck, not cluttered by a self-tending spar. Work on the side decks is protected by raised bulwarks at the deck edge, drains at deck level, a small open cockpit also with drains, and a small stern deck and lazarette.
She is rigged as a Bermudan cutter with a 305 sq. ft. Yankee on new Harken Unit 1 roller furling installed by professional riggers in Florida in 2006. She also has a staysail on a Pro-Furl roller furler, fitted by a rigging company in North Carolina in 2007. Her mainsail has three sets of reefing points made by the Kingston Sail Loft, Kingston, ON. The vessel has a DRS (drifter-reacher-spinnaker) of 650 square feet.
She has accommodation is for 4-5 people with comfortable live-aboard facilities, including head and other washroom amenities. She is ready to take her next owners anywhere they wish to go. | ||
