Discussion and equipment
So this is a discussion of the good and the bad. We have a Whitby 42 Ketch that needs work ( but mostly cleaning and some updating )
Last haul out was summer ‘09
She has a 5KW Onan 120 Volt generator that does not run but reported to not be frozen
Good set of sails ( reported to be 5yrs old )
Has Grunert cold plate refrigeration that has not been run in several years
Has a relatively new anchor windlass ( ’09 ) that can be operated from the helm
Both heads have reliable “Skipper” bronze heads
Has Seafurl II roller furling for the headsail and a removable stay for a staysail
Has a dodger and bimini with only a couple of years left in them
Has a rub rail which is a must for these boats –you can’t hold a Whitby 42 off the dock when it’s windy or you have an adverse current
Has the redesigned rudder ( which makes the boat handle better )
45# CQR plow anchor on roller for primary. 28# Danforth for secondary
Has depth, speed, VHF and wind instruments but they are dated
If you are looking for a Whitby that you can sailaway without doing any work you can expect to pay at least 70-100.
If you have a tight budget then maybe this is the Whitby for you.
