Adagio has a huge comfortable V-berth with a large airy opening hatch and lots of storage. And in addition to this, the V-berth has ample storage below the waterline, with areas that can be used to store eggs, vegetables and fruits and any other items that require a cool environment. The Cal 2-46 is unique in her place amongst the world's finest cruising designs. The raised center main cabin allows 270 degree view of your area through large Plexiglass portlites. The main cabin has two soles that sandwich between them the two fuel tanks inboard and either side of the mast) and the two water tanks outboard of the fuel tanks Because of this second and lower sole, no tanks sit upon a damp bilge or against the fiberglass hull, and ample ventilation from the engine room maintains a dry environment for this space. The wine cellar is readily accessed via a hatch in the upper sole ahead of the port fuel tank (4 cases of wine easily fit and ample beer can be stored to the side).
The raised settee affords ample storage beneath 4 seats for several months supplies including one compartment for spare parts. Behind the seat backs is additional dry storage. The current owners provision once with canned and dry goods for their routine 4-5 months of seasonal living aboard.
The aft cabin has a comfortable double berth and a desk with seating as well as an abundance of drawers and enclosed storage areas as well as it's own head.
Adagio also provides a standup work bench which on a cruising yacht is a true luxury.
She is a traditional style blue water cruiser that has been well thought out and exceptionally maintained.
The Cal 2-46 is of hand laid fiberglass and her interior woodwork was installed prior to removing the bare hull from the mold. She was built in the days before hull liners: this means easy access to all plumbing lines and electrical wires. All bulkheads are fully glassed into the hull and constitute structural stiffening. Two massive longitudinal stringers run along the hull to further prevent flexing. The main mast is thru-stepped onto an aluminum base that is set upon floors. The collar at the point where the main mast enters the cabin roof provides structural support to prevent flexing of the cabin due to mast compression: a massive aluminum beam spreads the load across the cabin top to the hull The owners have never experienced any creaking in this boat when driving to weather even in the worst sea conditions; She is solid. The shoal draught of 5 feet along a modified traditional keel protects the spade rudder and propeller from logs and debris. She is built robustly with attention paid to the couple or individual who is serious about very comfortable long distant cruising. Cal 46's have circled the globe without problems and the hull is easily driven under sail or power.
