Built in 1973 by Don Bernard (supervised by the designer Jim Young) this planing hull is glassed over triple skin Kauri and the boat is fully rigged for game fishing including Tuna Tubes & live bait tank. It sports two game poles - spreaders. The previous owner (Tony Paice) is well known for catching marlin out of Tutukaka & Whangaroa. She weighs 9.5 tonnes.
Powered by two 210 HP diesel Hinos they can drive the boat @ 27 knots or when full of fuel, water, fishing gear, food, fisher people & liberal stocks of alcohol this comes down to 23 knots. As it planes @ 11 knots, I tend to drive the boat at 12 to 14 knots (1900 revs) and she burns about 24 litres an hour. At say 16 knots the fuel consumption almost doubles. The engines allow 3300 revs. Engine hours are 3500 and an engine oil test proving no wear is available (Shaws Diesels Albany completed the tests last November). New tests can be arranged. I always carry a spare 12 volt battery. Engines & boat lighting are supplied by two 12 volt start batteries and two house batteries. A charger runs off engines, genset or shore power. Start batteries are 2 AGM (Gel type) and they are 1 month old as of Sept 2014.
Auto pilot and the 2013 Lowrance10 inch chart plotter & sounder help ease of control. The flybridge setup allows finger tip driving. The cockpit controls allow me to stand in the cockpit facing the marina berth and drive the boat backwards into the finger. The boat can turn 360 in its own length. One VHF in the saloon and one on the flybridge along with the electronics make things safe.
Two 200 litre SS water tanks & 2 x 500 litre SS diesel tanks either side, the huge freezer and a fridge are supplied power from the engines or a 5kva gen set, or shore power allowing 2 week long fishing trips. Hot water is from a califont currently and engine heating hot water can be readily re-connected. Lights are LED and there is a TV with DVD player & radios.
A large head with freshwater shower and a hand pumped flush of toilet provides both saltwater flush or freshwater flush. Facilities to connect a shower in the cockpit are in place. Cockpit also has a sink with hot & cold fresh water and cold salt water taps. A saltwater high pressure wash down unit provides easy & simple wash down of boat.
