SALLY ANNE is a Samson C-Deuce ketch designed by Samson Canada and built by Oster Marine, Thailand in 1973.
Full length encapsulated lead filled ferro-cement keel. With the rudder attached to the aft section of the keel, this cruising yacht offers stability and strength unmatched by fiberglass hulls. Hull Construction Details
The hull, deck, internal bulkheads and framing were constructed of Ferro cement reinforced concrete. It is believed to have been professionally built in the Oster Marine Ltd. yard in Thailand. The hull is approximately 1 inch thick with reinforcing bar and wire mesh. Thickened epoxy was used to fair the cement hull, and three barrier costs of epoxy was applied to the hull before the anti fouling bottom paint was applied below the water line. The ballast is internal in the molded Ferro cement hull.. The full keel design has an attached rudder aft of the keel. The topsides have an FRP coating with thickened epoxy fairing. The main deck is reinforced Ferro cement construction with an epoxy coating and non-skid in the traffic areas. Bulkheads, constructed of ferro cement are located throughout as an integral part of the composite hull. They are located at the forward and aft lazaret and forward and aft of the engine compartment. The vessels strength members are made up of metal reinforced ferro cement structured as a monocoque unit.
Main propulsion engine
The auxiliary engine is a Perkins model 4-236 M diesel. It is in serviceable condition and operates satisfactorily. There is a sea water heat exchanger cooling system installed. The engine has oil pressure gauges, transmission oil pressure gauge, engine temperature gauge, voltage meter and tachometer. Engine controls and stop lever are installed on the cockpit pedestal. The exhaust system is a wet exhaust with an FRP canister water lift muffler. The shaft log is the traditional packing gland with two bronze bolts for adjustment. The propeller is mounted behind the keel in an aperture forward of the rudder. It is a four blade 20" diameter by 16 pitch solid bronze left hand propeller mounted on a 1 1/2" stainless shaft.
Autopilot and steering system
There is an Autohelm ST5000 under deck mounted autopilot with a hydraulic pump mounted in the aft lazaret. The main steering system is a Wagner model T-3 unpressurized hydraulic wheel controlled steering system.
The primary power and lighting systems is a 12V DC system supplied by two battery banks for engine start and house services. The vessel's secondary electrical system is a 120 V AC system powered by shore power or an inverter.
The auxiliary engine has an alternator installed for charging the 12 volt batteries and supplying 12 volt house services.
A new distribution system for both AC and DC circuits has been installed with circuit breakers in a properly grounded distribution panel for each system.
The vessel has a 30 amp show power plug located on the forward side of the cabin house.
Sails and Rigging
The vessel is a ketch rig with double masthead forestay attached to a bowsprit and inner stay for a main staysail. The main mast and mizzen mast are deck stepped. Compression posts under the deck are properly secured to the keel. The main mast, mizzen and booms are constructed of wood. The forestay is attached to a wood bowsprit. The bowsprit is supported by two wire bobstays and side supporting stays. The main mast is a double spreader rig. There are upper shrouds, intermediate shroud and fore and aft lower shrouds. There are two backstays attached to the masthead and the chainplates outboard of the mizzen. There is a triadic stay between the main mast and mizzen. The mizzen mast is a single spreader rig. There are upper shrouds, fore and aft lower shrouds and a jumper stay on the forward side of the mizzen mast with a single strut. The chainplates are thru bolted through the hull topsides with substantial backing places inside the hull.

Marine Sanitation Devices
There are marine toilets in each of two heads. They are plumbed to a type III MSD holding tank with overboard Y valves. The holding tank is integral and installed in the bilge below the galley floor boards.
Vessel Accommodations and layout
There is a forward lazaret which gives access to the anchor chain locker. The forward cabin has two single stacked berths to port and a hanging locker and head to starboard with shower. Proceeding aft, the main salon has settee berths to port and starboard and a folding table on centerline. There are pilot berths outboard of the settees. The galley is located aft to port in the main saloon area. There is a chart table and navigation center on the starboard side at the aft end of the main saloon. The engine room is accessed via a door adjacent to the chart table. Main access stair to the cockpit is on center. The engine room provides interior passage to the aft cabin. The aft cabin has a double berth to port and storage lockers to starboard. The aft head compartment is on the port side of the aft. cabin. Dickenson diesel stoves are located in the main salon and aft cabin for heating.
The galley has a Magic Chef LPG four burner stove and oven mounted without gimbals. A Magic Chef microwave oven is mounted on the forward galley bulkhead. There is hot and cold pressure water at a double stainless sink. There are two fresh water tanks mounted under the galley floor boards. There is an All-cdraft Seafarer V9-M 9 gallon electric or engine heated water heater under the galley counter.
