The Newman 36 was one of the first commercially available solid fiberglass hulls, built before the strength and longevity of fiberglass were fully known. Below the water line the hull is up to 1-1/4" thick. SUGAR D, previously a handsome gentleman's lobster boat, has been for the last 15 years a crew commuter between Lincolnville and Islesboro. Due to be upgraded with a larger boat, SUGAR D has a "just broken-in" Cat diesel, new Raymarine integrated electronics, and is tough, able, reliable.

SUGAR D is powered by a Model 3126 Caterpillar 6 cyl, turbo charged, after-cooled, dry exhaust, 420hp @ 2800 RPM, diesel with 4200hr. Performance Spec 2T-6742. With Twin Disc MG5061A, down-angle, 1.75:1 reduction transmission, shaft saver, 1-3/4" SS shaft, dripless seal, 22" 4-blade Nibral, cupped, 21.033 pitch prop, she cruises at 15kt and tops out at 22kt. Morse twin lever mechanical controls and Racor primary fuel filter. There is a seperate salt water circuit for cooling the turbo.

SUGAR D is a tough, able work boat with proven years of reliable day and night service, good weather and BAD, warm and COLD. The motor has 4200 hours, is professionally maintained, and cruises day after day at 2200 RPM. Still on the payroll.
The lobster hauling gear could be activated easily.
She comes with a spare, running (10,000hr), parts motor.
