This 36' Islander is the boat in which Zac Sunderland sailed solo around the world, becoming the youngest person to accomplish that feat up to that that time and the first person under age 18 to do so. Zac's father, Shipwright Laurence Sunderland, rebuilt the boat and fitted her out with all necessary gear to withstand the forces encountered in bluewater cruising . She is a cutter rig with Yanmar 40hp engines (new 2008), dual rollerfurling head sails, wind generator, solar panels, and Monitor self-steering system with all lines accessible from the cockpit. She has excellent maneuverability and ability to sail to windward.
