CAL 34, 1968, Yanmar diesel, in the water and ready to sail, for sale in Stamford, Connecticut.
The C William Lapworth designed Cal 34 is a successful cruiser/racer; 347 hulls were built between 1968 and 1975. This is one of the models that built the reputation of the CAL name and Jensen shipyard for strong, easy sailing classic yachts, built with integrity. CALs are known for their lasting quality, roomy interior, great headroom, and today are popular for live aboard.
Baka is a fine example of this class. She sleeps 6 below in the traditional forepeak (2), main salon (2) and after berths (2). The head is forward, separating the forepeak from the main salon, marine toilet to starboard, sink and vanity to port. The port side dinette seats 6 or sleeps 2. The linear galley is to Starboard with a large top opening ice box, CNG 3 burner cook top and oven on either side of the stainless sink. Aft are two pilot berths great for sleeping in a seaway or entirely too convenient for extra storage.
On deck, Baka’s keel stepped mast is not original though we do not know when it was replaced. Rod rigging and the roller furling is clearly also newer. She is tiller steering in a large cockpit. All lines lead to the cockpit. Decks are plenty wide to easy passage forward. Sails are Dacron, a little tired but serviceable.
The Yanmar 3 GM diesel is a replacement of the original Atomic Four, again not sure when the repower was accomplished, engine hours unknown, which starts easily and runs well.
Baka needs some cosmetic work both above and below decks. She is a good candidate for a live aboard and is perfectly capable of near shore cruising. She is a fine value at the offered price.

All the way forward, traditional vee double berth with cushions. Built in drawer and cabinet storage, bright work wood. Large overhead deck hatch for ventilation. side shelf storage. bright work hanging locker is to starboard.
Next aft starboard manual marine head in wood trim compartment. Port side is vanity with stainless sink and large wet locker.
Main Salon starboard side is a linear galley with bright work cabinetry containing drawers and cabinet for storage. Large Formica counter space with top loading ice box, stainless steel sink, and half gimbled CNG 3 burner cook top and oven.. Port side main salon sports a 3 side dinette around a bright work table seating 6. Shelf storage.
Center line companionway steps over the engine compartment.
Aft, two pilot berths, perfect for seaway sleeping in comfort, or the inevitable last minute stowage, have shelving as well.
This yacht was originally built with an Atomic 4 gasoline engine and was repowered with a Yanmar 3 GM diesel at some unknown time. There is n hour clock on the engine, we have no idea as to the actual hours. The engine has always started easily and run well. The engine has is normal oil and zinc changes,and has required no further maintenance aside from a water pump some years ago.
This Yanmar 3GM has a heat exchanger and closed cooling circuit.
