Miss Silver ketch motor sailer designed by John Bain and built by his Silvers yard at Rosneath in 1963. A very popular yacht offering a lot of comfortable space within her modest length. Centre wheel house allows for a separate aft cabin with its own heads. Forward sleeping accommodation in the saloon with a very practical galley and a second heads. This design proved very popular for cruising sailors offering shelter from the elements, a manageable rig and a decent Perkins engine to get home when required. Full standing headroom throughout, 4 berths, comfortable seating in the saloon. This boat is in smart and tidy condition

Designed by John Bain, built by his Silvers Yard, Rosneath on the Clyde. John Bain is best known for his fine motor yachts but he also designed a few motor sailers. Despite appearances, the Miss Silver design performs far better under sail than one would expect with 275sq’ sail. She has the benefit of a nice aft cabin with a good saloon cabin forward.
This one was built in 1963. Major 3 year refit in a Plymouth boat-yard in previous ownership, one of the nicer examples of the class afloat.
Planked in mahogany all copper fastened to heavy sawn oak frames with 2 steamed intermediates.
Massive oak floors on the sawn frames with galvanised strap floors on the steamed timbers.
Long external iron ballast keel with keel bolts through the oak floors.
Some internal lead trimming ballast.
Wheel steering on chains and cables. Removeable emergency tiller aft on the rudder stock.
Coach-roofs forward and aft of the centre wheel-house built in iroko coamings with teak laid decks.
Sliding doors each side of the wheel-house.
Traditional varnished iroko sky-light on both the forward and aft coach-roofs.
New chromed window frames.
Deck laid in solid teak with varnished coverboards.
Galvanised stanchions all round with varnished mahogany capping rail.
White painted hull, blue anti-fouling, varnished transom.
Bermudian ketch rig on varnished masts stepped in painted galvanised tabernacles on the coach-roofs.
Stainless steel rigging with Norseman terminals to internal galvanised chain plates.
Mainsail, mizzen, jib and genoa all in tan terylene.
Perkins 4108 55hp 4-cyl diesel installed in 1985. Centre-line installation under the wheel-house floor which lifts in panels to give excellent all-round access. Hatch in the wheel house roof removes to facilitate engine removal.
TPM gear-box with single lever controls to 3-blade prop. gives 8knts
Twin stainless steel fuel tanks of 20 galls each under the stbd side deck alongside the engine.
Chains forward. Bulkhead to saloon cabin with V-berths, table between. Lockers below the settee berths and behind the settee backs. Shelf above each side.
Galley in the after port corner with new 2-burner, grill and oven gas cooker, new stainless steel sink/drainer, drains overboard. Locker under the side deck and below the sink.
Heads compartment and hanging locker in the after stbd corner. Blake sea toilet, fold-down plastic hand basin. Locker under the side deck.
Centre-line steps up to the wheel-house.
Port side steering position with teak rimmed wheel in a new console with full engine instrumentation.
New switch-board below.
Engine controls to port on the wheel-house side.
Chart table along the back of the wheel-house.
Port off-set steps down into the aft cabin. Port and stbd berths with Dunlopillo mattresses, drawers under.
Hanging locker to port with calorifier tank and stowage.
Heads compartment in the fwd stbd corner with Blake sea toilet and porcelain hand basin.
All fine quality, limed oak joinery.
Locker in the after bulkhead to lazarette.
Teak cabin soles.
Pressurised water supply from 50 gall galvanised water tank under the side deck alongside the engine.
Calorifier tank, heated from engine and 240v shore power.
This Miss Silver underwent an extensive yard refit in previous ownership. The work completed includes:
Stbd aft coach-roof coaming replaced.
Aft coach-roof deck replaced in sheathed ply on new laminated mahogany deck beams.
Stbd forward coach-roof coaming replaced.
Stbd side deck replaced in solid teak
Forward coach-roof deck replaced in teak over ply sub deck.
Port holes, window frames and nav lights all re-chromed.
New teak hand rails on the coach-roofs.
New chromed rails to the sky-lights.
All stanchion posts regalvanised and replaced with new mahogany capping rail and new guard wires.
The yacht was been partly rewired with new electrical panel and engine controls on a new steering console.
New gas bottle locker under the stbd side deck in the wheel-house, drains overboard.
