AVEDONIA is the ex NOAA ship PIERCE. Commissioned May 6, 1963 at a reported cost of $33,000,000, she was built alongside her sistership WHITING and was active as a hydrographic survey ship for NOAA until 1991. Renamed ELIZABETH M. FISHER and repositioned in New York Harbor next to the INTREPID, she was part of the Air and Sea Museum until 2000. With 50,000 US gallons of fuel and EMD 800 shp main engines, she has a range of 5,700 nautical miles at 11.5 knots and is capable of breaking ice up to 6". She will serve as a great platform for an expedition yacht, dive charter operation, or commercial fishing platform. | ||
