The Laurent Giles Peter Duck was designed by the J Laurent Giles office, the first of which was built for Arthur Ransome. After this the design was modified with more freeboard and some 38 boats were built by Porter and Haylett of Wroxham, this particular one being launched in 1963.
The concept was for a sturdy, dry and comfortable cruising sea boat with a good deal of internal volume for the length. They were not intended as motor sailers but are similarly not competitive race yachts, the emphasis was on manageability and comfort more than speed and performance.
This particular yacht however was converted by the previous owner in 2005 from the usual ketch rig to a bermudan cutter with a taller mast and lifting bowsprit. This has significantly increased the performance compared to other Peter Ducks making her more comparable with cruising sloops of her size, except that she has more internal volume than most 29′ yachts. This work was professionally undertaken and the results are very impressive.
Maintained by the same east coast wooden boat yard for the last 20 years, she is a very tidy yacht and much admired. 2016 survey available.
Planked in Iroko all copper fastened to steam bent oak timbers.
