EASTWARD has been in the same family since she was built in 1956. For many years, she has been sailing along the coast and “down east” by her renowned owner/author, Roger Duncan and his family. Roger is best known for co-authoring The Cruising Guide to the New England Coast, and Coastal Maine: A Maritime History. Additionally, when the Friendship Sloop Society held its 1st Regatta Races in 1961, EASTWARD, Hull #6 of the Friendships, was there and took home her share of hardware. She has continued to do so over the last 40 years. During 1997-2002, Roger’s son and grandson have successfully taken day charter parties out from Boothbay Harbor. EASTWARD made an ideal “6 person” day charter vessel due to her long cockpit, and large cabin top for lounging and sunning, and her traditional gaff-headed topsail rig, which appealed to the “first-time” sailing enthusiast and traditionalist. Since her extensive reconstruction, EASTWARD is now renewed, and ready for her next 56 years, gracing the waters of the Maine coast. | ||
