The owner of Ladyhawke has purchased another vessel and thus she is back on the market. Recent upgrades include: some new canvas, lowering of the forward berth for extra room, and the addition of a new custom mattress. The S.V. Ladyhawke (Ex S.V. Radha) is reported to have quite a history. All indications are that she was designed by renowned naval architect B.B. Crowninshield. B.B. Crowninshield is famous for his of America’s Cup contenders, as well as numerous famous schooners including the Schooner Adventuress and Schooner Martha. The gaff rigged schooner Ladyhawke is reported to have been originally constructed in Boston Massachusetts. During the 50’s through the 1980’s she was principally used as a working tuna fisher. It is reported that during this period she sailed around the world twice. Her past history also includes a rebuild in 72-74, some replanking in the 80’s, and a new transom in the 90’s. In 1996 another rebuild was undertaken that included removal of her fiberglass fish hold, some replanking, the removal of several long-range tanks, and an extensive rehab of the hull. The hull was cold molded with mahogany and epoxy and sheathed in FRP. The boat was then sold to a Northwest owner who had the intention of heading to the Panama Canal, and cruising the Caribbean. The boat never made it back out of Washington State. With the passing of the owner, she was sold to her current owners. The hope is that someone with knowledge, skills, and an appreciation for wooden boats will step forward as caretaker and project manager in order to continue the history of the Ladyhawke.
