Tug named chipola was sold after the war to a private company and used for many years as a working tug; was then sold and used as a liveaboard for several years renamed wildflower. The present owners purchased her in 2007. The tug was pulled, sandblasted and new metal was welded where required. Zincs were installed, bottom was primed and painted, shaft was repacked and other miscellaneous tasks completed. When she arrived in michigan, the rest of the hull was scraped to bare metal, than two part epoxy primers and paints were used. The hand rails were removed and new ones welded . All four exterior hatches custom made, mahogany and cherry. The living area was gone through and updated.. The original steam engine was replaced with a 12-71 detroit diesel which gave an extra level above the engine and a most efficient engine burning 8 gallons per hour, an impressive 1 mile per gallon for a 145 ton vessel!
the interior was completely refurnished. There is a large saloon and bar area and a full galley on the main level. This area was the second deck of the engine room . There is a large refrigerator, stove, oven, dishwasher, etc.with a bath and shower attached. Going forward is a large queen size cabin with an attached head and full size bathtub and shower. Up from the main level is the wheel house with chart table and electronics. The ship's wheel was replaced with an hydraulic joy stick giving excellent control
of this large vessel.. Behind the wheelhouse is the captain's cabin with head and shower. Another hatch leads to the upper deck. There is a ladder that leads to the lower deck. Below deck has a large bunkroom sleeping six with washer and dryer. The engine room is spacious. The electrical power is supplied with a 20 kw detroit diesel generator.
