This yacht is one of only four of Harrison Butler's 'Rose of Arden' designs built. She is a very pretty double ender which has had an exciting cruising life in the previous ownership to South America, Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Recently she has undergone a refit to her rig, an engine overhaul and repainting and varnishing.

Harrison Butler 'Rose of Arden' Bermudan Cutter

Dr Harrison Butler designed the ‘Rose of Arden’ class in the 1930’s, and this boat is one of four built and one of the three built at Mashford’s yard in Plymouth. In the previous 37 year ownership she made in excess of 10 transatlantic crossings and cruised extensively in the Caribbean, South America and the Mediterranean. She was always taken back to Mashfords Boatyard during his ownership for maintenance.

Carvel mahogany planking on oak frames. Teak superstructure and cockpit. Pine deck, epoxy sheathed.
2 ton iron keel + internal ballast.
Refit this year included hull and decks repainted, brightwork re-varnished, garboard seams raked out and professionally re-caulked with oakum and red lead putty. Keel bolts tightened (drawn 2 yrs ago and found sound). New rudder heel support.
Bermudan cutter. Tan sails. Total sail area 395 sq ft. Galvanised rigging.
Professionally re-rigged this year.
Volvo Penta MD 10a 2 cylinder petrol engine. Recent service, lots of spares.
2 saloon berths.
Forepeak for storage and the original Baby Blake heads.
