Sparkman & Stephens /Nevins Sloop

In the world of classic sailing yachts, there are scores of wonderful boats, many of them designed by Sparkman & Stephens, but there are only a handful that can be considered true “collectable” classics.

BLITZEN, (S&S design # 221), is one of this special group of notable and iconic designs that helped define what many consider to be the golden age of yacht design.

The collaboration of Sparkman & Stephens and the Nevins Yacht Yard in City Island, New York is well known for producing some of the most enduring and sought after sailing yachts in the world.  She was built of the finest materials available and no expense was spared on hardware and equipment.

BLITZEN amassed an impressive race record that spanned 40 years.  She was one of “the boats to beat” in the most prestigious races from New England and Florida to California and the Great Lakes.

The interior layout of the boat has been modified slightly to accommodate family cruising in comfort.

While the current owner has consistently and methodically maintained and upgraded BLITZEN to preserve her structural integrity, she is in need of a significant amount of restoration.  This can be performed over a period of years while continuing to sail during the season or could be tackled all at once as a full refit.

Sparkman & Stephens is very interested in seeing BLITZEN passed on to another caring and devoted owner and will be available to provide as much technical and historical assistance as is required.
