Venture is an original "Class A" Friendship Sloop built and designed by Wilbur Morse in Friendship Maine in 1912. She is Sail No. 66 in the Friendship Sloop Society. Venture was initially a working lobster boat out of Boothbay and has been sailed for recreation since about 1944. In 1955 she was featured in the movie of the musical "Carousel." She was completely rebuilt in 1971 by Jarvis Newman and Ralph Stanley in Southwest Harbor. She was also illustrated in an article on Friendship Sloops in Nautical Quarterly #5, 1978, and in Wooden Boats by Joseph Gibbons, 1991. Venture's name has never been changed since being built. She is one of a handful of these original classics still sailing and represents great value to the sailor who desires to keep these beautiful sloops on the water.
