Sleeps up to 12 owners/guests in 6 belowdecks staterooms; 4 heads. CHARTER CAPACITY - up to 75 passengers for day trips; dining space for up to 60. LAYOUT FROM FORWARD: Chain locker is followed by storage with CREW QUARTERS next aft - CREW head is forward with (4) single berths following and crew lounge next aft. ENGINE ROOM may be accessed here via a watertight door or from abovedecks on port. Stairwell from the belowdecks crew quarters is to port. Aft of the engine room and belowdecks are the GUEST STATEROOMS port and starboard, consisting of two double berth staterooms each side followed by one stateroom at each side with over/under singles outboard. Two spacious GUEST HEADS service these belowdecks cabins.
MAIN DECK, FORWARD begins with the formal DINING SALON, with companionway aft on starboard to the MIDSHIPS GALLEY to port and DAY HEAD compartment to starboard. Next aft is the MAIN SALON with bar and bar stools forward to port. Finally aft at the main deck level is the large AFTER DECK with FANTAIL STERN, complete hardtop, and Eisinglass curtain enclosure for all weather use. BOAT DECK level offers the ENCLOSED WHEELHOUSE all the way forward, followed by the ship's stack with tender storage and davits each side. Masts forward of the wheelhouse and aft of the stack are slightly raked.
'EL PRIMERO' has had substantial investment over the years to install modern systems. Interior features include hardwood wall panels trimmed with teak; gas lamps; brass fixtures; mirrored built-in buffet; hand-painted enamel sinks set in marble; and much more. She is an irreplaceable working piece of maritime history, as well as a popular BC social and corporate event charter yacht.

Well arranged GALLEY offers full equipment, including commercial dishwasher; (2) refrigerators; freezer; icebox; Sanyo microwave oven; 4-burner electric stove with (2) ovens; double stainless steel sink; pressure hot/cold freshwater system with hot water heater; ample counter space, cabinet and drawer storage. Mechanical Equipment & Engine Details
ENGINES are vintage estimated at 1955, with a 1990 rebuild and are rated at around 200-hp each. Dry exhaust; freshwater cooling by heat exchangers; hydraulic reduction gear is approximately 2:1 ratio. Prop is 4-bladed bronze; steel shaft is approximately 5" diameter. Cutlass stern bearing.
OTHER MACHINERY INCLUDES: a GM 4-53 4-cylinder diesel with dry exhaust driving hydraulic pump for Wesmar bow thruster; boiler for circulating hot water heat system; electric compressor for receiver. Mechanical steering with emergency tiller; one compressed air tank for engine controls and horn. INSTRUMENTATION includes ammeter; volt meter; tachometer; oil pressure; water temperature; vacuum gauge; and air pressure gauge.
FIRE CONTROL includes 20# CO2 at engine room; (2) 5# dry chem units - one each at the bridge and galley; (2) 5# Halon 1211 units at saloon companionway and forward; 5# dry chem and 15# CO2 at the after deck; 15# and 18# dry chem units. (3) hydrants; (3) hoses; and (3) nozzles.
BILGE PUMPS include (4) 1" electric automatic and (1) 1-1/4" portable 110v electric. Bilge water alarms all compartments. Portable gasoline-driven fire and bilge pump together with appropriate hoses stored on the upper deck.
ADDITIONAL: NOTE new tail shaft in 1998. Diesel welder with 4-cylinder Perkins generator. Holding tanks installed.
Construction
CONSTRUCTION is of steel built by Union Iron Works in San Francisco in 1893. Strakes are steel plate 3/16"; planked wood decks; wooden masts; curved transom; welded and riveted fastenings; displacement hull; 3/16" x 1-1/2" x 2" steel frames at 18" centers; wood house; galvanized steel rigging; fine curved stem; (4) watertight bulkheads. NOTE that the vessel is 135' in length overall, including bowsprit.
Broker Remarks
DECEMBER 2009 UPDATE: WOW this is a true classic 'working museum'. A 117 year old vessel originally steam repowered in 1954. With her last refit done in 1990, she's ready for a new owner and new adventure. Engines are running and ready, and we will be firing her up for a return to Seattle in January 2010.
