Every so often something particularly special comes out of the Beneteau stable and the 57 is one such example. In fact, probably the most obvious example . ever! Her official launch, by none other than Ellen Macarthur took place at the Paris Boat Show in December 2002, and by the end of the Show, together with the early reservations confirmed, over fifty boats had been sold, taking up almost the next two years of production. Her popularity has thundered on ever since with over 100 boats now sold. Unlike many other manufacturers who simply replicate a given formula to a larger variation on a theme, Beneteau have gone back to the drawing board with this flagship and tried to produce something a bit different, a bit special, a bit 'je ne sais quoi'. Again, the factory sought the help of Bruce Farr in coming up with a good slippery hull, capable of good turns of speed and yet still manageable by a short-handed crew, Beneteau were looking for their first serious bluewater cruiser, something not out of place crossing any ocean or even on a world cruise. The fact that Beneteau have just gone into partnership with the ARC Race is no accident. The 57 is the ideal boat for such an event and many have completed this event. There are several very different interior layout options, in keeping with the fundamental belief of making this boat almost 'semi-custom', whilst maintaining a price akin to what would be expected from the world's leading and largest production manufacturer. With her enormous aft decks leading down to a transom platform via her patented aft access system, her own separate galley, the walk-in engine room, the comfortable crew quarters, the cavernous sail locker and enormous navigation station, as well as a helmsman's position better described as 'the bridge', everything about this boat has a 'big boat' feel to it. Have a closer look, you will be impressed, but can you walk away afterwards? We very much doubt it! Something to be very very proud of.
