For the past two years, YachtWorld has been seeking nominations of individuals and their foundations who are doing amazing and inspiring work in ocean advocacy, or who generously share their boating and marine knowledge and opportunities with others. As a result of your nominations, we have named fourteen YachtWorld Heroes and provided well-deserved international exposure to their foundations and causes. Now it’s time to add a few new names to that list.
Nominate a Hero
Do you know someone, or admire someone, who encourages or spreads the joy of boating in a significant way? Someone who shares their love of our oceans, rivers, lakes and other marine environments by protecting it or teaching us how to be better stewards of Planet Blue? If so, send us your nomination by October 31, 2013. Here are the categories:
Defending our Oceans
Innovative ways to preserve and protect the worlds’ oceans, rivers, lakes or other marine environments:
Example: 2012 YachtWorld Hero, Capt. Alexia Barrier, founded the ocean research program “4myplanet” which saw her commission and sail a 60 foot sailing yacht around the world single-handedly, while gathering ocean status data and educating school children worldwide via satellite podcasts and in person along the way.
Joy of Boating Crusader
Utilizing boats, boating skills, boating education or boating services to benefit others. Spreading the joy of boating.
Example: 2011 YachtWorld Heroes Debra Frenkel and John Weller co-founded Freedom Waters Foundation with the compelling mission to enhancing lives by providing therapeutic boating and marine related activities for people with disabilities, life threatening illnesses, youth at risk and others with special needs.
Marine Industry Professionals Changing The World
Example: 2012 YachtWorld Hero, Captain Mark Drewelow, of YachtAid Global, matches megayachts with communities who need medical and school supplies in far away communities.
