The Oyster 885 is the largest yacht in the British yacht manufacturer’s core range. Hull number one, Lush, was purchased by Eddie Jordan’s family trust and the Formula One aficionado is currently enjoying sailing the yacht around the world with family and friends in the Oyster World Rally (see Oyster World Rally Starts From Antigua).
Designed by Rob Humphries to the 24-metre limit of the MCA, the Oyster 885 has a twin rudder configuration for slick handling and stern and bow thrusters for manoeuvring in harbour. State of the art deck systems, including furling sails and hydraulic winches, make the Oyster 885 easy to handle.
Performance is still important to a man like Eddie Jordan, even on a yacht, so Lush does not have an in-furling mainsail. Her enormous asymmetric spinnaker requires at least six competent crew to handle.
HIGH PERFORMER: Lush is probably the fastest Oyster ever built due to her light weight hull construction using Kevlar and carbon fibre, teamed with a high performance rig, which provides an enormous sail area. Lush attained a speed of 22 knots during her first transatlantic crossing. Photo Mike Jones/Oyster
SPACE TO ENTERTAIN: Lush has just one lavish stateroom and three magnificent guest cabins, but plenty of deck space for entertaining. This was at the bequest of Eddie Jordan. Photo Mike Jones/Oyster
FAST CIRCUMNAVIGATION: Lush is the fastest yacht taking part in the Oyster World Rally, a 14-month odyssey through the Caribbean, Pacific and Indian Ocean to celebrate Oyster’s 40th birthday. Photo Mike Jones/Oyster
OUTSIDE LIVING: The ergonomically designed split cockpit IS perfect for al fresco dining away from the winches and helm station. All of the yachts major controls can be accessed by the helmsman’s console. Note the off-centre companionway designed to give better use of space both on deck and below. The companionway hatch is hydraulically powered and opens at the touch of a button. Photo Mike Jones/Oyster
LOTS OF DECK SPACE: The hydraulically controlled aft swim platform gives excellent access to the water. Eddie Jordan also uses it in port as a stage for his other love in life, music! Jordan has taken a drum kit with him on the Oyster World Rally and intends to jam with rock legends around the world. Photo Mike Jones/Oyster
CAREFULLY DESIGNED: Tender storage is often a big issue with cruising yachts, and the 885's tender well up forward doubles as a snug recess when the tender is deployed. Note the additional sunbathing area with cushions between the well and the mast. Photo Mike Jones/Oyster
ENGINE AT ITS HEART: Accessed via a solid metal fire door, the walk in engine room is the heart of the yacht with a 246kW Cummins engine. All hydraulic, electrical and water-cooling systems have been laid out for easy maintenance. State of the art soundproofing means that there is virtually no engine noise below let alone on deck, even at high revolutions. Photo Mike Jones/Oyster
GLAMOROUS GALLEY: Placed forward, completely separate from the saloon area, Lush’s galley has every modern convenience including a snug adjacent to the crew quarters. Note the engine room door with inspection window and washer dryer in situ. Photo Mike Jones/Oyster
SPLIT SALOON: The 885 features a split-level saloon with a raised seating area, giving 360 degree visibility. A bespoke feature of Lush is that the coach roof is a full 30cm higher than originally planned. A chart table is located at the lower level and a clever table design in the seated area gives plenty of options for two table or a single table table dining for up to 12 people. A pop up TV and an advanced built-in sound system provide a wealth of audio-visual entertainment. Photo Mike Jones/Oyster
STUNNING STATEROOM: Lush's enormous aft stateroom features a generous en suite and enjoys substantial natural light combined with extensive storage space. The full ceiling height is achieved using a clever raised aft deck layout. The master bedroom is, quite simply, a luxurious five star experience. Photo Mike Jones/Oyster

The 885 is all you might expect for a yacht owned by Eddie Jordan… An interior design that shouts ‘rock star’ and reflects somewhat the man’s flair for style, twinned with a sleek and speedy-looking exterior. This a yacht packed with luxurious indulgences, for a man who doesn’t like going slowly!
