44' Custom - by David Laux 44 Cutter Sloop
CUSTOM BUILT WORLD CRUISER
Here's an excellent opportunity on a custom-designed and built aluminum world cruiser. Completed in 1979 by designer/builder David Laux out of Georgetown, Delaware. I had the pleasure of chatting with Mr. Laux recently regarding this cutter rigged sloop. He has remained in contact with the current, original owner since her completion and states that the vessel has been remarkably free of problems throughout her life. While David Laux no longer takes on build projects today, he remains busy working on various vessels he has built over his very long boat building career.
"Courier" has enjoyed a very active and successful sailing life having sailed up and down the eastern seaboard and participating in several Bermuda Ocean Races. The time has come for her original owner to pass the helm to her next owner, creating this wonderful opportunity.
She's fully fitted with an extensive sail inventory. While she is currently rigged in sloop configuration, she can be rigged as a cutter with her existing inner forestay. She is constructed entirely of aluminum...no soft decks or cabin tops here! The cockpit is finished with Burmese teak wood while decks is finished with African teak and dovetail carpentry. Her shoal draft full keel of just under 4' makes her perfect for gunkholing the shallows of the Chesapeake Bay...or the crystal clear waters of the islands. Off shore, her deep centerboard will offer excellent stability and steerage.
Whether you want to sail the blue waters or stay in the bay, this vessel is worthy of it all while turning heads every where she sails. While she's ready to go sailing today, she will need some TLC to bring her fit and finish back to new. She's priced right...for a quick sale!
