Meet Our Brokers
Bruce Smith has been a broker with Ashley Yachts since 1984. He holds a Certified Professional certificate from YBAA, a Florida Broker’s License, is a USCG licensed captain and a licensed real estate agent. Prior to his brokerage career he served in the Coast Guard, worked in commercial shipping and was a delivery captain for both sailing and power vessels. "My favorite part of being a broker is being near the water and helping customers find the best boat for their needs and budget." Bruce is a life long boater in both power and sail with extensive cruising experience.

Edward James has served for eighteen years as a full time yacht broker in Charleston, SC with forty-five years marine experience in total. He has logged over 70,000 offshore miles including the waters of the Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean. Ed has served as a delivery captain, charter captain, private instructor for both power and sailing vessels, and project manager for vessel refit and maintenance. Edward holds a Certified Professional certificate from YBAA as well as a Florida Broker's License. He also holds a USCG 100 ton Masters License and a certificate in celestial navigation.

Carlton has a lifetime of boating experience as an avid racer, charter and delivery captain. A native to Charleston, he is a member of The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors, the Cruising Club of Charleston, the Charleston, Hobcaw and Sea Island Yacht clubs and the Charleston Ocean Racing Association. He is Past Commodore of both the Cruising Club of Charleston and the Charleston Yacht Club. Former naval officer and holder of a Masters License, he has had experience in the Atlantic, Arctic, Aegean, Caribbean and Pacific oceans. He has shared his mastery of boat handling skills by teaching others in both power and sail. His years as a marine surveyor have provided valuable insight to many vessels of all types. Through his delivery and personal boating travels, he has developed contacts throughout the Atlantic and Gulf coastal regions.

A native of Charleston, Bill is an avid boater and has been involved with recreational boating, both power and sail, all of his life. Bill has been captain of the Charleston Pilot Boat, served in the Navy, was a yacht broker with Charleston Yachts in the early seventies, worked with marine surveying, and retired from the Maersk Container Service, where he was Marine Manager at the Wando/Welch Container Ship Terminal. Bill is a member of the Yacht Brokers Association of America, the Charleston Yacht Club, the Cruising Club of Charleston, and the Sons of the American Revolution. Bill enjoys cruising the waterways, inshore fishing, riding motorcycles, and flying.

Greg has been on boats, both power and sail, his entire life. He has worked in all aspects of the boating industry from charters and deliveries to sales and service on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. A USCG licensed Master Captain, he currently sails his own forty-foot sloop in Charleston Harbor every chance he gets.

Laura is the office manager at Ashley Yachts. She has lived in Charleston for 6 years. She attended College of Charleston on an academic scholarship, graduated in 2006, and is now working on her Masters in Clinical Counseling at the Citadel. A relative newcomer to the world of sailing, Laura is excited to be learning more each day and is proud to be a new member of the Charleston Ocean Racing Association.
