Featured Boat 44' Reliance Sloop 1978 US$ 24,500 SOUTHERN BELLE is for sale by the lien holder.  The Reliance 44 was designed by Pierre Meunier of Montreal, Canada to be a seaworthy, fast, and comfortable cruising sailboat.  Her full bilges give good stability with power to carry more sails.  A long keel with large rudder area insures comfort and ease of steering in all conditions.  Although not designed as a racer, the R 44 has been clocked at speeds in excess of 10 knots. SOUTHERN BELLE, unfortunately, has suffered in recent years and is currently in poor but restorable condition.  She was originally rigged as a ketch but the mizzen mast has been removed and she is now rigged as a sloop.  Her strengths are in her popular design and in some improvements, most noticeably her RECENT ENGINE.  Her weaknesses include deterioration of her chainplates, the need to remove her bottom down to its laminate for blister repair, and other items needing attention due to general neglect; however, she has been priced with this in mind and, for the right person, is an attractive opportunity.
