A native of the Pacific Northwest, Dennis was introduced to boating at the age of eight, cruising the Columbia river on the family sailboat. He crewed on various boats to Canada and the San Juan Islands in the summer. He moved to Southern California to work in the aerospace industry, sailing on weekends out of Newport Harbor. Looking for a change, in the late '60's he signed on as a sailing instructor at the Ardell Sailing School in Newport Beach, was later offered a new boat sales position and has been on board ever since, except for a two year sabbatical in the late'70's to captain a 57' S & S sailboat.
Over the years, Dennis has participated in numerous sailing races to Hawaii and Mexico and has cruised the Pacific Northwest, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. His on the water experience has proven invaluable when matching clients' requirements to specific boats. Originally from the Western Pennsylvania area, Mason Staring had his first taste for boating aboard his father's Chris-Craft and Owens in the Pittsburgh area. Along with summers in Pompano Beach, sailing and boating on the intra-coastal helped Mason realize his dream was to eventually get into the boating industry.
He attended college in Utah sailing on Mountain Lakes whenever possible. Prior to becoming a yacht broker, Mason was in real estate for several years which helped him prepare for the yacht brokerage business. In 1987 he moved to Newport Beach from Salt Lake City where he immediately procured a position selling new and brokerage sailboats. From that time on he has steadily increased his knowledge of the yachting industry and joined Ardell in the Fall of 2000.
"Honesty, courtesy, patience and follow-up are key ingredients which make service the key in the yachting business. After over 13 years in the industry I have built up an extensive client base and a loyal following."

Sailing became part of my life when I was nine and my family moved from Palm Springs to Newport BEach, California. I worked as a beach lifeguard in high school and as a Harbor patrolman while attending college at USC. I was also a member of the national championship swim and water polo teams. During this time, I also has a successful career sailing in dinghy and Olympic class boats culminating in the Soling class Olympic trials in 1972. My offshore sailing career began with crewing 50-70 foot ocean racers in local and overnight trips to Mexico. I have raced in a number of transpacific races to Hawaii, Tahiti, Australia and Singapore, the Southern Ocean Racing circuit to the Bahamas. I have skippered cruising yachts across the Atlantic from the Mediterranean to the Bahamas, Caribbean and West Indies, Panama to California and all through the Northwest and Southeastern United States and the Western Canadian waters.
Besides having a great deal of fun on the water, I also flew combast missions as a Navy pilot in Vietnam and had a full career as a commercial airline pilot while working for over 33 years as a yacht broker in Southern California, the Pacific Northwest and Florida.
With my extensive cruising and racing background, I believe I can help you find the ideal vesel to meet your specific needs as a boater. I have participated in new construction projects from Europe to New Zealand and have located boats for my clients from all over the world. I try to specialize in quality and value for my customer. Having a client thank me for his or her wonderful new boat and talking about my kids' accomplishments bring me the most joy. I look forward to adding you to my list of satisfied clients and good friends.
