LAKE FOREST, IL, September 19, 2002 - Today, boats.com, Inc. announced that it's YachtWorld.com (www.yachtworld.com) division has broken new ground by partnering with the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) (http://www.nams-cms.org/) to provide their member marine surveyors with access, via a restricted website, to data from over 75,000 sold boat records as reported by the YachtWorld.com member brokers.
The new website www.soldboats.com
The President of NAMS, Ron Reisner, made a telling point during the announcement to NAMS full membership when he said "The National Association of Marine Surveyors is extremely pleased to offer its members access to the YachtWorld sold boats database. Given that defensible marine survey valuations are best based upon actual comparable sales, the YachtWorld data will significantly assist our members in determining the strongest defensible value for a given boat."
This theme is echoed by Paul Rabe, president, chief operating officer and co-founder, boats.com, Inc who says "We strongly believe our industry needs trustworthy statistics and information on a national and international basis in order to make sound business judgments. This new initiative from YachtWorld and NAMS is an excellent example of that philosophy and demonstrates the leadership of the industry segments that these organizations have."
The new database and the information it contains was enthusiastically received by Northwest Yacht Brokers Association Survey Committee Chairman Richard Brown who said "The NYBA is pleased to endorse this milestone agreement which will provide the surveyors of NAMS an invaluable tool in calculating accurate market values on purchase surveys. This agreement reflects the growing cooperation between all the parties involved and is in keeping with their longstanding efforts to maintain the highest level of professionalism and service to the boat buying public."
Through boats.com and its affiliated Web sites www.boats.com and www.yachtworld.com, marine dealers, brokers and manufacturers are utilizing a new, international channel of operation and consumer interaction.
boats.com enhances the capabilities of the boating industry by offering dealers and OEMs a range of unique products, online and offline, which help sell, finance, insure and market all marine product lines. With an established network of industry alliances - including the exclusive endorsements from the industry's two leading associations, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and the Marine Retailers Association of America (MRAA), boats.com provides an unmatched level of consumer access to information, boat listings, accessories and financial and insurance products for the marine industry.
YachtWorld.com was established in June 1995 to provide an advertising venue and MLS for yacht brokers. Today it has 1,600 yacht broker members firms with 2,500 offices and 5,000 individual yacht brokers advertising over 55,000 current boats for sale valued at $15 billion, and viewed by over 1 million unique visitors a month. When a boat sells, the listing broker documents the sold price, removes the listing from public view, and moves it to www.soldboats.com where it can be password-accessed by YachtWorld.com member brokers and now, by subscribing NAMS members.
The National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) was founded in 1962 to provide professional certification and continuing education opportunities for qualified marine surveyors. The nearly four hundred NAMS members are located in all major coastal and river system areas of the United States, as well as in the Caribbean, South America, Europe and Asia. NAMS certified marine surveyors (NAMS-CMS) are among the best qualified in the world, each having more than five years full time experience, and each having passed through a rigorous screening and testing procedure. All NAMS surveyors ascribe to a published Code of Ethics, and must engage in yearly continuing education to maintain their certification.
